Run for Something Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Gut the Voting Rights Act

NEW YORK — Run for Something President and co-founder Amanda Litman released the following statement on today’s Supreme Court decision eviscerating the Voting Rights Act:

“Today’s decision gutting the Voting Rights Act is a devastating reminder that if we want to create a fairer democracy – one where Republicans cannot silence entire communities – we need to elect and support state legislators in every state across the country. Democrats are whistling past the graveyard by solely focusing on federal elections while the power to write the rules of the game exist at the state level. Run for Something is focused on supporting and electing candidates at the state and local level for this very reason, and the bench we’re building is increasingly the last line of defense against Republican efforts to rig the system.”
