Run for Something Partners with Bernie Sanders to Recruit Young Progressives to Run for Office

NEW YORK, NY—In an unprecedented move to build long-term progressive infrastructure, Senator Bernie Sanders is partnering with Run for Something (RFS), the nation’s premiere candidate recruitment organization, to recruit and support young people ready to run for local and state office. The initiative has already drawn interest from over 5,000 prospective candidates, a share of which will be connected directly with RFS for further support. The initiative kicked off with a targeted email to Senator Sanders’ vast grassroots network. It will be followed by trainings and one-on-one campaign guidance for all candidates and prospective candidates.

“Young people aren’t waiting for the change we need—they’re stepping up to be that change,” said Amanda Litman, Founder and President of Run for Something. “Our future depends on building a new generation of leaders, and with this partnership, we can reach even more young people ready to serve their communities and fight for change.”

This partnership comes on the heels of Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s nationwide Fighting Oligarchy tour and marks a major new chapter in the fight to build long-term power from the ground up.

Since the 2024 election, close to 45,000 people have contacted Run for Something about running for office—more than in the organization’s first three years combined. Today, RFS has built the largest pipeline of potential candidates in the country, with over 200,000 people from all 50 states. It has helped elect more than 1,500 young, diverse leaders in 49 states—including five members of Congress and dozens more who are now preparing for high-profile races in 2026.
