Run For Something Statement on Providence Mayoral Candidate David Morales’ Win

NEW YORK, NY – Today, Run for Something-endorsed candidate David Morales won the Democratic primary in the race for Providence mayor, unseating incumbent Brett Smiley. Morales, a renter himself, centered affordable housing and renter-friendly policies as key pieces of his campaign platform. He’s one of the nearly 180 renter candidates endorsed by Run for Something so far for 2026.

Run for Something President and co-founder Amanda Litman released the following statement in response:

“Providence residents – like millions of Americans across the country this year – showed that they’re hungry for new leaders who understand their voters and will actually fight the issues directly affecting them. From tackling the housing crisis to focusing on renter-friendly policies and working to make life cheaper for working families, this new generation of leaders is showing that when they run, they win. We are proud to support David and look forward to him continuing to fight for Rhode Island families.”
