Run for Something and MoveOn Political Action Launch Joint Recruitment Effort to Build Young Progressive Bench
Digital ad campaign targets Gen Z prospects, while new training supports young leaders
NEW YORK, NY — Today, Run for Something and MoveOn Political Action announced a new partnership aimed at recruiting and training more young progressives to run for state and local offices. For the first time, MoveOn will tap into its younger membership base to encourage them to run for office and be funneled into Run for Something’s best-in-class candidate infrastructure program.
Prospective candidates will gain access to Run for Something’s new online training and mentorship community, designed to help support them at every stage of their political journey. In addition, the organizations are launching a five-figure digital ad campaign to reach and recruit new prospective Gen Z candidates. It will be followed by a kick-off call hosted by the two organizations to energize participants and offer resources to explore a run for office. With the 2026 elections on the horizon, the partnership will build a strong bench of leaders who will fuel the movement and fight Republicans and entrenched interests instead of folding to them.
“We know that young people are fired up and ready to lead, but too often they don’t have the resources or support to take that first step and run. That’s what this partnership is all about,” said Run for Something President and Co-Founder Amanda Litman. “MoveOn Political Action has built one of the most dedicated grassroots movements in the country, and together, we can turn that commitment and energy into real political power at the state and local level. We are not just talking about the path ahead—we are building the bench, candidate by candidate.”
“MoveOn members are ready to empower a new generation of leadership to carry the torch forward and stand up to Trump and Republicans,” said MoveOn Political Action Political Director Mohammad Khan. “We’re excited to tap into our membership to inspire them to take the leap into reshaping our government and changing the status quo. Backed by Run for Something’s road-tested recruitment and training program, we’re excited and ready to support and catalyze a new generation of people-first candidates.”
This partnership comes on the heels of Run for Something’s partnership with Sen. Bernie Sanders, who similarly asked his community to run for office — further cementing Run for Something’s role as the premier candidate recruitment and support organization for all state and local leaders who are ready to fight back against Trump. It comes amid an unprecedented surge in enthusiasm from young people seeking to run. Over 60,000 people have signed up with Run for Something to explore a run for office since Trump was elected, including 10,000 people signing up in the two weeks after Zohran Mamdani’s primary victory.
